Waitress side-eyed me when I ordered the udon with natto (fermented soy beans) and Yamaimo (Japan's slimy mountain yam).

"uh, have you had that before?"

"no," I replied, " but my friends did warn me it's an acquired taste."

"ohhh kayyyy" she said with an eye-roll and collected our menus, while also winking at my friends.

"I saw that !" I called after her.

So, yeah, it tasted like a tide pool, with noodles.

    Very healthy I'm sure.

Everything my friends ordered (fried noodles with shrimp, fried mochi, gyoza, pork Katsu set) looked really delicious and I was stuck with my slimy tide pool.

I did determinedly finish the whole thing.  "How did you like it?" my friends asked.  "uh, it was delicious" I said loudly, hoping the waitress would hear.  Then I whispered to my friends "next time I'll try something different."

Jimbo's makes their own noodles and they're excellent.  Also, my friend's set combo dinner was only 20 cents more expensive than the dish by itself, so that was a great deal.

They didn't give us any grief when my friend's escape-artist miniature poodle liberated himself twice from his secret location in his travel bag under the table and began to wander, so, thanks for that.

    Looking forward to going back!

I am not an udon person.
However....My sister brought me to Jimbo's the other night and I throughly enjoyed my stir fried udon with veggies and tofu! It was amazing and Reid was helpful in guiding me through my udon experience.
What really made me so happy to eat at Jimbo's was also the fact that the don't use MSG in their food ! Hooray !
Now, I'm dreaming about my next time at Jimbo's and trying out their Moringa udon dish. Healthy and yummy! My kind of meal!
    Mahalo, Jimbo's!

Whatever you're craving, they have it. If you don't know what you're craving just ask the wait staff - they're super knowledgeable on the menu.

Prepare to spend $15-$25 including tip.

I was craving tempura so I ordered the tempura and udon and had about 6 different kinds of veggies with plenty of sauce. So good. The broth was pretty standard but the udon noods were epic. So good.

Plenty of parking and awesome customer service.

My son has jujitsu class near this place so I pass it twice a week. I love noodle dishes and have been wanting to try for a really really long time. This place totally reminds me of the old skool Japanese restaurants! The decor....the signs for specials...the menu with photos of each dish .... and the service is very quick but quiet.

We ordered the salmon combo that consisted of miso salmon, mini udon, tsukemono, and rice for $19.80. I would definitely come back again and look forward to trying a couple more dishes. As I said, very old skool Japanese style which totally made me smile as I left the restaurant!

Tip: they have parking in the front as well as an additional dozen more stalls in the back off of Young street.

This place is always a winner. No matter what you order, you will not be disappointed. The wait time is a hit or miss. I've been here when it wasn't too crowded, but there were times I needed to sign in and wait along the window outside. Not a long wait because their turn times are pretty quick.

Service is always excellent. Pretty straight forward. You get water and menus, you place your order, food comes out pretty quick. Then either you get dessert or the check and leave.
